Preparation Steps
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup of whole milk, 1 large egg, 1/4 cup of melted unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon of dried culinary lavender, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla bean paste.
  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead for about 1 minute until smooth.
  5. Roll the dough to about 1/2-inch thickness and cut out circles, placing them on a floured surface.
  6. Heat vegetable oil over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Carefully drop the dough circles into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  8. Remove the beignets from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  9. While still warm, dust the beignets with powdered sugar.
  10. Serve warm on a platter, perhaps alongside coffee or tea.
