Ingredients

For the Casserole
  • 1 can Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup Substitute with cream of mushroom for variety.
  • 1 cup Milk (2% recommended) Can be swapped with almond or soy milk for dairy-free option.
  • 1 cup Sour Cream Greek yogurt is a healthier substitute if desired.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce Reduce to 1 teaspoon for milder taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic works well too.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Finely chopped onion can be used instead.
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika Regular paprika can replace it for less smokiness.
  • Pepper Adjust according to your taste preferences.
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese (divided) Can swap for Monterey Jack or a cheese blend.
  • 4 cups Russet Potatoes (peeled & diced) Yukon Gold potatoes are great for added creaminess.
  • 2 cups Diced Cooked Ham Any cooked meat can be an excellent alternative.

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch casserole dish
  • large mixing bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the oven rack in the middle.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine a can of condensed cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of milk, and 1 cup of sour cream. Add in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and pepper. Stir in half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Add a layer of diced Russet potatoes in a single, even layer at the bottom of the prepared casserole dish. Then, sprinkle the diced cooked ham evenly over the potatoes.
  4. Pour the creamy sauce mixture over the potatoes and ham. Use a spatula to gently stir the ingredients to ensure even coating.
  5. Cover the casserole dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 45 minutes.
  6. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese on top. Return the casserole to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 15 minutes.
  7. Let the casserole rest for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
