Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, blending each completely, then mix in sour cream and eggnog until smooth.
  5. Gradually combine the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter between the cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Prepare the Eggnog Buttercream by beating the butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and eggnog until smooth.
  9. Once cooled, frost the cake layers with Eggnog Buttercream and decorate as desired.
