Preparation Steps
  1. Begin by softening unsalted butter and placing it in a mixing bowl. Cream the butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Crack in the egg and add vanilla extract to the creamed mixture. Blend well until smooth and glossy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips and Christmas colored M&Ms. Cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator.
  6. While the dough chills, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet.
  7. Scoop out portions of dough, roll into balls, and place them on the baking sheet. Press M&Ms on top and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  8. Allow the cookies to set on the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
