  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded fontina can be a flavorful substitute
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream Greek yogurt can be used for a healthier option
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated nutritional yeast is a great dairy-free alternative

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef for about 5-7 minutes, then drain excess fat.
  3. Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in the skillet for 2-3 minutes until translucent.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions, usually about 7-9 minutes, then drain.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, combine macaroni, beef mixture, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and sour cream. Mix well.
  7. Pour half of the mixture into the baking dish, sprinkle half of the remaining cheddar and mozzarella on top.
  8. Layer the remaining mixture on top and sprinkle with the rest of the cheese.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  10. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
