  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs using panko adds crunch
  • 1 large Egg can replace with a flax egg for vegan option
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
For the Caramelized Onion Sauce
  • 2 large Onions sliced
  • 1 cup Beef Broth or chicken/vegetable broth
  • 1 tbsp Honey or sugar
For Topping
  • 1 cup Gruyère Cheese can substitute with Swiss or Fontina

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently and shape into 1-inch meatballs. Arrange on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the meatballs for about 20 minutes until browned and firm.
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté sliced onions in a splash of oil for 20-25 minutes until deep golden brown. Add honey midway through.
  5. Add beef broth to the caramelized onions, stirring and simmering for a few minutes to meld flavors.
  6. Carefully add cooked meatballs to the onion sauce, stirring to coat. Simmer together for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  7. Top with Gruyère cheese and broil for a few minutes until bubbly and golden.
